Trimbakeshwar Temple
is a Hindu Temple situated in the town of Trimbak in Nashik District.
Trimbakeshwar Temple is around 25 to 30 Kms from Nashik. Trimbakeshwar Temple
is one of the Twelve Jyotirlings and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Trimbakeshwar
Temple is located at the source of Godavari River which is the longest river in
Peninsular Region. The Godavari River, which goes from Brahmagiri Mountains,
meets the sea near Rajahmudry.
The feature of Jyotirlinga is located in Trimbakeshwar
Temple is the three faces of Lord Rudra, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. The
Lingas were started to erode due of large use of water. The Lingas of
Trimbakeshwar Temple are covered by jeweled crown placed on the Gold Mask of
the Tridev Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. From the age of Pandavas the crown is
there and is made up of Diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones. Every
Monday at the evening the crown is shown. At the foothills of the Brahmagiri
Mountain the black stone temple is known for its appealing architecture and
sculpture.
About Godavari River : -
When Brahmadev came to Satya Loka he
worshipped god Trivakram with the Holy water of Ganges, to get the river held
up with God Shankar on his head. People were affected by pangs of hunger when
there was a famine of 24 years. In the dwelling place of Trimbakeshwar the god
of rains- Varun pleased with sage Gautama who arranged rain every day in
Gautama’s Ashram. In the surrounding fields of ashram Gautama used to sow seeds
in the morning, whereas in the afternoon he used to reap the crop and also
Gautama used to feed the group of Rishis, who used to take shelter in the
ashram. The blessings which the Rishis used to give had increased the Punya
(merit) of Gautama. Because of the increased merit of Gautama lord Indra’s
position had become shaky. So to rain all over Trimbakeshwar Indra ordered
clouds to over the famine and to increase the merits of Gautama Rishis will go
back.
