Transport Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati Mandir :-
1) Way from Pune :-
There are buses from Swargate which go to Shivaji Nagar.
reach Appa Balwant Chowk from here Dagdushet Ganpati Mandir is on walking
distance. There are P.M.T buses which go to Shivaji Nagar at interval of 5 mins.From Pune station one can come to Pune Municipal Corporation and from here it
is around 1 kms. Anyone can guide you to the temple.
2) Way from Mumbai :-
From Mumbai there are ST (State Transport) buses, Local
transport or Train available to Pune station (148kms) from here you can follow
the above route to reach Dagdushet Ganpati Mandir.
This temple is the heart place in Pune. Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati
Temple is dedicated to lord Ganesha who was the son of goddess Parvati and god
Shiva. Lord Ganesh has a body of human and the head of elephant there are
mythological stories related why he has the face of elephant.Dagdushet Ganpati
got its name from the person whose name is Dagdushet Halwai or Dagdushet Gadve
who was a lingayat trader. Lingayat is the one who wears lingam in Kannada. Dagdushet
Gadve was a Kannada stayed in Pune he was famous for his profession of sweet
making. A sweet maker is called Halwai in Hindi hence he was started calling as
Dagdushet Halwai. Dagdushet Halwai’s shop is still present near the Datta Mandir
and owned by his posterity.
He used to stay in the Datta Mandir building in the Budhwar
Peth. During this era there was a breakdown of plague due to which son of Dagdushet
Gadve(Halwai) died. Due to which Dagdushet Gadve (Galwai) and his wife were
mentally affected of this shock. Dagdushet Gadve (Halwai) and his wife
consulted there Guruji Shri Madhavnath Maharaj he advised them to make and
treat the two idols of lord Ganpati and lord Dattamaharaj as their sons Dagdushet
Gadve (Halwai) made the two idols and started taking care of the idols in which
Ganpati was his first son .
Dagdushet Gadve (Halwai) established the Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati
Trust. During British Rule public meetings were barred due to which LokmanyaTilak
gave a form of public to get united and celebrate the Ganesh festival.
Today this Ganesh idol is ensured with 10 million Rupees (US
$170,000).Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati trust runs an old age home known as ‘Pitashree’
located in Kondhwa. The trust takes care of about 40 to 45 poor children’s who
provides shelter and education to them. They also provide facilities such as
ambulance and health camps in the tribal regions of Pune district. The trust of
Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati is and pride and prestige of Pune they carry public
festival every year and issue a help to the poor’s and needy. This festival is
celebrated with an intention of public gathering and without any barriers of
caste and religion.
There are also many spots nearby Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati Mandir
such as Shaniwarwada, Tusibag Ganpati, Mandai Ganpati,Kasba Ganpati, Tambdi Jogeshwari.
There is a Pune Darshan bus from Shaniwarwada which takes you to Mahatma Phule
Museum, Shaniwarwada, Raja Kelkar Library, Peshwe Garden, Bund Garden, Mahadjji
Shinde Chattri, Agakhan palace and some other important places in Pune.
Every year the decoration of Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati is
worth visiting they are mostly made with flowers and lightnings. Recently the
decoration of Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati was a replica of Hawai Mahal which is
situated Madhya Pradesh. Every year film actors and Ministers visit the temple
and pray for them and their families.
